چکیده

BACKGROUNDThe response of cystic brain metastases (BMets) to radiotherapy is poorly understood, with conflicting results regarding local control (LC), overall survival, and treatment-related toxicity. This study aims examine the role Gamma Knife (GK) in managing BMets.METHODSVolumetric analysis was conducted measure tumor edema volume at time GK follow-up MRI studies. Survival described using Kaplan-Meier method cumulative incidence progression Aalen-Johansen estimator. We evaluated association 4 variables survival Cox regression analysis.RESULTSBetween 2016 2021, 54 patients 83 BMets were treated our institution. Lung cancer most common pathology (51.9%), followed by breast (13.0%). The mean target 2.7 cc (range, 0.1-39.0 cc) 13.9 0-165.5 cc). median prescription dose single fraction fractionated 20 Gy 14-27.5 Gy). With a 8.9 months, (MST) 11.1 one-year LC rate 75.9%. associated decreased volumes over time, although 68.5% required steroids post-GK. Patients whose tumors grew beyond baseline following received significantly more pre-GK whole-brain radiation therapy (WBRT) than those declined GK. Higher age diagnosis systemic worse an MST 7.8 months who it compared 23.3 did not.CONCLUSIONSPre-GK WBRT may select for increased radioresistance. highlights ability cost high post-treatment steroid use.

Outcomes Following Gamma Knife for Metastases

Brain metastases occur in approximately 20-40% of all cancer patients, with an annual incidence of 170,000-200,000 cases, outnumbering primary brain tumors by a factor of ten to one (Gavrilovic, 2005; Posner, 1992). The management of brain metastases has evolved significantly in the past 10-20 years. These changes are attributable not only to improvements in the fields of neurosurgery and radia...

Gamma Knife Radiosurgery for Melanoma Brain Metastases

Purpose: The objective of this study is to report the combined experience at Johns Hopkins University (JHU) and the Miami Neuroscience Center (MNC) in treating brain metastases from melanoma with stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS). Methods and Materials: Prospectively collected clinical and demographic data on patients with melanoma treated with Gamma Knife (GK) at JHU between 2003 and 2007 and th...

Gamma knife radiosurgery after stereotactic aspiration for large cystic brain metastases.

OBJECTIVE Several treatment options have proven effective for metastatic brain tumors, including surgery and stereotactic radiosurgery. Tumors with cystic components, however, are difficult to treat using a single method. We retrospectively assessed the outcome and efficacy of gamma knife radiosurgery (GKRS) for cystic brain metastases after stereotactic aspiration of cystic components to decre...

Gamma knife radiosurgery for multiple brain metastases from lung cancer.

The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of gamma knife radiosurgery (GKS) for the treatment of multiple brain metastases from lung cancer with that of whole brain radiation therapy (WBRT). Patients with multiple (2-20) brain metastases were divided into two groups for initial brain tumor management: a GKS group (14 patients) and a WBRT group (19 patients). The patients were strat...
